Byzantine Enamel Ring Byzantium, 10th century, or perhaps earlier
Gold, cloisonné enamel and pearls
circumference 55 mm.; weight 5.0 gr.; US size 7 ¼; UK size O
36 300,00 EUR
In remarkably good condition, the cloisonné enamel and the original seed pearls account for the rarity of this enchanting (but unfortunately not wearable on a daily basis) ring, which resembles other works of Byzantine jewelry and the decorative arts. Perhaps of Christian origin, the bird in profile (a dove or peacock?) is probably purely decorative.
